Final conventional wallcovering - Forget Me Not

BRIEF:
The brief for this project was to research and respond to a historical style of wallpaper and synthesize this with current and future trend research to inform the development of a contemporary wallcovering design collection. The goal is to design and create a two- dimensional repeat pattern design and a less conventional wallcovering ‘concept’.
OUTCOME:
My 'Forget Me Not' collection focuses on Aotearoa native endangered and extinct flora. I decided to highlight the endangered Kowhai and Kakabeak. I designed motifs of the native flower heads in a sun-burst-inspired pattern, (the flowers bloom outwards in a circular motion). While being connected by a single winding vine, symbolising these two flowers are still alive and growing, but only just.
Whereas, the extinct flora is “lost” in the background of wallpaper, the Forget Me Not, and a species of Manuka are colourless and taped to the background. Their silhouettes are shadows of where they once grew.
